March 9, 1995--Case Corporation (NYSE:CSE) today announced the extension of the North American contract manufacturing agreement for excavators with Sumitomo (S.H.I.) Construction Machinery Co., Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, into the next century with automatic renewals.
This is an extension of an agreement signed in April 1992. Sumitomo will continue to supply Case with hydraulic excavators for the North American construction equipment market. Case manufactures and markets a full-line of hydraulic excavators in Europe for the European market under the name Case Poclain.
While Case manufactures the majority of the products in its line of construction equipment, agreements such as the one we have with Sumitomo enable us to cost-effectively offer our customers the product line breadth they need,'' said Jean-Pierre Rosso, Case president and chief executive officer. ``This is in line with our strategy of entering into strategic partnerships that enable us to respond to the needs of our customers.''
Rosso said the renewed agreement is evidence that Case's relationship with Sumitomo has been extremely successful. Case recently introduced a new six-model line of Case 90B series excavators, supplied by Sumitomo, that offers new levels of productivity, controllability and operator comfort. ``Since beginning our relationship with Sumitomo, our share of the North American excavator market has tripled, and we have re-established Case as a major player in this market,'' Rosso said.
A world leader in hydraulic excavator design, manufacturing and technology, Sumitomo manufactures products that offer the highest levels of quality and hydraulic controllability.
Case supplies loader-backhoes, trenchers, skid steers, excavators, wheel loaders, crawler dozers and forklifts to construction equipment markets throughout the world. Approximately 40 percent of Case's 1994 revenues came from sales of construction equipment.
Case Corporation, with net sales of $4.3 billion in 1994, is the second-largest maker of agricultural equipment in North America and the largest manufacturer and distributor of light- and medium-sized construction equipment in the world. Headquartered in Racine, the company's products are sold in approximately 150 countries through a network of about 4,100 independent dealers and distributors.
