SYDNEY-based civil construction and environmental rehabilitation specialist Rainbow Group recently purchased a low-noise Sandvik Rammer G88 hammer for use in an inner-city bulk excavation project where site noise is an important factor.
The hammer, fitted to a 30t Sumitomo SH300 excavator, is being used in the excavation of Sydney sandstone as part of the earthworks for three residential towers in the City Quarter development on the site of the former Children's Hospital at Camperdown.
Rainbow is using four 30t-36t excavators, along with a D11 dozer, to excavate a total of 80,000m3 of sandstone, to depths of 9m-16 m, for the apartment development.
According to Rainbow Group’s joint owner Tony Di Mattia, the low noise levels on the Sandvik Rammer “city” hammers were a key element in the decision to go for the G88. “We needed a hammer that was as quiet as possible, especially in this inner city environment, and the G88 is considerably quieter than its competition,” he says.
“In addition, we’ve had a very good run with the Sandvik Rammer hammers we have on our smaller excavators, through our local dealer Ground.Tec Equipment.” Rainbow operates a full range of equipment, including low loaders, excavators from 1t to 40t, skid steers and ancillary equipment.
